Filming Locations of Harry Potter
Horse Guards AvenueFilming Locations of Harry Potter
33. Horse Guards AvenueIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Harry and friends must infiltrate the Ministry of Magic to steal a horcrux from Dolores Umbridge. They enter through the gentlemen's toilet entrance, filmed on location at Horse Guards Avenue in London near the intersection with Whitehall. The massive entrance on the right is the very real Ministry of Defense (MoD), flanked by monumental Earth and Water statues as well as a statue of a Gurkha soldier unveiled in 1997. The entire street falls within what used to be the Palace of Whitehall until it was mostly destroyed by fire in 1698. In addition to the MoD building, the avenue features the Banqueting house on the south side (the only remnant of the Palace of Whitehall), and the Old War Office Building and Whitehall Court on the north side.
