6. Black Rock Gorge
London, England
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry is chased into a spectacular gorge during the first challenge of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. In real life, it is the Black Rock Gorge in the Scottish Highlands near Evanton, around 15 miles north of Inverness. Nearly 1,000 feet in length and 120 feet high, the gorge is a deep and narrow cleft into old red sandstone conglomerate. At the bottom runs the Allt Graad, also commonly referred to as the River Glass. Local Gaelic legend has it that the Lady of Balconie was lured into the depths of the gorge by a mysterious figure thought to be Satan. It has been rumored ever since that her cries can still be heard from the top of the gorge.
