Filming Locations of Harry Potter
Rothenburg ob der TauberFilming Locations of Harry Potter
47. Rothenburg ob der TauberAlthough a very brief scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, the robbery of the wand by young Gellert Grindelwald from the house of Gregorovitch was filmed in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, about 40 miles west of Germany's Nuremberg. You don't see a great deal of it here, but it's also the fairytale village seen in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It actually operated as a Free Imperial City from the late Middle Ages until 1803, when it was brought into the Bavarian fold. It was in the 1880s that artists rediscovered the town and laws were passed to prevent any substantial changes from being made to the picturesque collection of buildings. In addition to many museums, the town features notable structures as the Town Hall, the Town Wall and the western Town Gate.
