31. HeathgateIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Hermione makes the difficult decision to leave her parents and wipe herself from their memories should something happen to her. The home she leaves is on Heathgate in the swanky Hampstead Garden Suburb of the Borough of Barnet. The suburb was the brainchild of Henrietta Barnett, who purchased 243 acres of land from Eton College for the project. It's an early 20th century attempt at social engineering. The idea was that the village would be for all classes and income groups of people with a relatively low density of housing, wide streets lined with trees, properties separated by hedges rather than walls, and plenty of common outdoor gardens and woods for all to enjoy. Those ambitious and lofty aims were doomed to fail, however, as the area has become one of the wealthiest neighborhoods.
