15. Datford TunnelIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, When Hagrid is trying to outrun the Death Eaters with Harry on board, Hagrid dives recklessly into the southern entrance of the Dartford Tunnel that runs under the River Thames beside the concrete pillars of the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. It was only used for that particular shot, though, as the tunnel's interior was filmed elsewhere. The Tunnel is one component of the Dartford Crossing that connects Dartford (in Kent) and Thurrock (in Essex). It is comprised of two different tunnels and a bridge, all of which opened in stages. The west tunnel opened in 1963, the east tunnel in 1980 and the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge opened in 1991. Both tunnels are slightly less than a mile long while the cable-stayed bridge is 449 feet high and a main span that is nearly 1,500 feet long. Nearly 150,000 vehicles use the Dartford crossing each day.
