Filming Locations of Harry Potter
King's Cross Railway StationFilming Locations of Harry Potter
35. King's Cross Railway StationWhen wizardry students catch the train to get to Hogwarts, they do so at the infamous Platform 9 and 190;, which in real life is the arched wall between platforms 4 and 5 at the station. You can't go on the platforms, though, without a valid train ticket. The station has, however, installed its own nod to the Potter films with a disappearing luggage cart and sign between platforms 9 and 10, underneath the walkway to the main building. The station opened in 1852 on the northern edge of Central London where Euston Road and York Way come together. Before the station was built, the area was named King's Cross after the monument that stood to King George IV, which was demolished in 1845. The site was also the location of a fever and smallpox hospital. Famous trains that have been associated with the station include the Flying Scotsman to Edinburgh and the Mallard, which held the speed record for steam trains.
